Who Cares When The Family Doesn’t Care?
What must a poor patient do when the very family members that are critically needed for support adopt attitudes that vary from indifference to downright resentment of the patient for getting cancer in the first place? Fortunately, this seems to be a rare occurrence as family members are generally noted for their support in the fight. Perhaps this sad situation occurs more than might be realized, since, after the patient is dead, there would be no one to describe it, hence the world would never know about it. This article deals with one such case and how the patient was clever enough to triumph over indifference. Direct quotations are used to convey the passion and desperation of the patient in her own words and the actual words of the mentor who helped her.
